ExpREES – Your Route to Becoming an Expert in Eastern European, Russian and Central Asian and Southern Caucasus Studies

Are you enrolled in a Finnish university? Would you like to specialise in Eastern Europe (incl. Ukraine, countries in Eastern Central Europe and South-Eastern Europe, the Baltic countries), Russia, Central Asia or the Southern Caucasus in your master’s?

The Aleksanteri Institute at the University of Helsinki coordinates a network of 12 Finnish universities which offer a multidisciplinary study programme known as ExpREES (Expertise in Russian and Eastern European Studies). You can choose this minor as part of your master’s degree in, for example, arts, social sciences, engineering or business. ExpREES is all about a variety of perspectives!

Please submit your application via the online form by 14 April. For more information, visit the website “How to apply to ExpREES?” The results will be announced by 25 May 2026.

Please note that our compulsory studies (such as the summer school) are offered in Finnish, but we will provide alternative study modules in English to fulfil these requirements.
