Thesis committee

The thesis committee follows the progress of your thesis project and the degree, as well as supports your supervision arrangements and career planning. All doctoral researchers must have a thesis committee.

Thessa

The University of Helsinki uses the electronic Thessa tool for the planning, supervision and monitoring of doctoral studies. Getting started with Thessa and using it is easy. Simply log into the system and follow the instructions given. Once you have logged in, you can start planning your thesis project and record your publications, studies completed and any funding you have received.

Don’t forget to invite your supervisors and thesis committee members to Thessa. Once they have accepted the invitation, you can draw up a supervision plan and both your supervisors and the members of your thesis committee will be able to view the annual report you draw up in Thessa every year. The supervision plan is drawn up using the Thessa profile of one of your supervisors.

Annual report

Once a year, you need to submit a progress report on your doctoral studies in Thessa. This annual report should be submitted well in advance of the annual meeting of the thesis committee, so that your supervisor and the members of the committee have time to read it before the meeting.

Important

An up-to-date Thessa account is a requirement for doctoral researcher funding from the Graduate School, including travel support, financial support for thesis completion and university-funded doctoral researcher positions.

Please take a moment to check your own Thessa account and address any issues which may be missing.
